Injuries & Suspensions

Fortunately for Zidane and Real Madrid, the entire squad is fit and healthy.

There are no suspensions which means that the entire squad is available for selection. Here is the 18 man squad that made the trip.

Playing XI & Formations

Much has been made of Zidane the manager – his tactics and man-management skills. Much has been said and written about how his lack of technical finesse is hurting Real Madrid.

However, slowly but surely, Zidane is coming of age as a manager since the turn of the year. He did start experimenting with his line-up and formation which has reaped benefits. Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez are the torch bearers of that change and in the process have dislodged Isco and Bale from the starting line-up.

Ideally, one should believe that those two along with Ronaldo are undisputed starters. However, they have been playing continuously and could be rested. Gareth Bale and Isco could feature instead as they were left on the bench against PSG, which could provide some rest to those who started in Paris.

With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric back to full fitness, expect the midfield duo to start at Eibar. The defensive midfield could be occupied by either Casemiro or Mateo Kovacic. In defense, the usual back four should start. However, there are slim chances of Varane being on the bench, given his injury history.

Whatever Zidane chooses to do, he needs to ensure that the balance of this team is intact. The team is hitting all the right nodes and it is better to let the group continue doing that.
