Real Madrid won in superb fashion Sunday against Girona with a 6-3 scoreline. The win comes at a great time as the international break has arrived. Here’s what the players had to say after the match.

It was by no means an easy win for Real Madrid as Girona fought relentlessly at the Bernabéu, but after 90 minutes, the three points were in the bag. Cristiano Ronaldo was impeccable as he scored four goals and picked up an assist.

Ronaldo aside, the team is looking good with great movement on and off the ball and crisp runs of passing to get the ball moving. Many players will head out of Madrid to join their national team and will return to La Liga action on March 31st against Las Palmas.

Here’s a look at what the players had to say and their reactions via social media.

Lucas Vazquez

Opening Statement

"“Today was a big game, it was important to win and do it in style. We put in a good performance and now we’re going in to the international break, which will do us good. We’ll go and work with the national team and when we come back we have some important matches and we have to be ready to perform.” “I’m happy with how things are going, enjoying getting minutes and playing with confidence. I try to give my all and work hard, paying back the trust placed in me with goals, assists and helping the team win.”"

Vazquez on Cristiano Ronaldo

“He’s on unbelievable form at the moment, he helps the team with his work, with goals and assists. Everyone benefits from it. We’ve got a great squad with great players and the coach has a difficult job to pick eleven. We have to work as hard as possible and he’ll decide who plays.”

Benzema creating chances

“Karim was brilliant. He created a lot of chances and was involved in a lot of the play. He didn’t have much luck in front of goal today, but if he continues like this, he’ll score lots of goals.”

Nacho

Opening Statement

"“I’m sure the fans have enjoyed it. It was a game with lots of goals, we were comfortable out on the pitch. It’s true that we didn’t have much luck from the set pieces, but the important thing was to win and continue with the good run.” “We went 1-0 up and were in control, dominating the game and we then went and conceded. We spoke about it at half-time and made a bright start to the second half. The team performed very well overall and put in a great performance, we bossed possession and created a number of chances.”"

“This season we’re more focused on the Champions League and it’s never easy to accept it when you concede. We don’t usually concede from set pieces, but today that’s how all of their goals were scored. We’ve now got to continue working on that area of our game.”

Nacho speaks about Ronaldo

“Cristiano is unreal. Once again this season he’s proving that he’s the world’s best. He was suspended at the start of the campaign, then he wasn’t putting his chances away and that was odd for him, the fact that he wasn’t scoring. He’s now helping the team and that’s really positive for us.”

Mateo Kovacic

It isn’t over just yet

“We got off to a good start, scoring the goal and I think that we played well, but we simply can’t concede three goals like that. It’s an issue for us and we’ll have to really work on it. We’re angry about it but nothing is done and dusted just yet.

There are many games left and we won’t be throwing the towel in. I was out for three months and I’m fit now and have got back up to pace. We’ve got to keep it going and come back even stronger after the international break.”

Speaking on Ronaldo and Benzema’s performances

“We’re not surprised by what Cristiano does, he scores goals every single day. He has to be congratulated on it but he’s not the only one, because we all had great games. I’m thrilled for him but the most important thing is that the team wins and it doesn’t matter who gets the goals.”

“Benzema also put in a good performance. He didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, but as I said before, it doesn’t matter who scores, the most important thing is that we all work hard and win.”

Marco Asensio

A team effort

“The only problems that they have caused us have come from set piece. It was a very complete performance from the team, I’m very happy with how we feel and the victory. You’ve got to look at the whole game and take the positives. As for the negatives, we’ve got to address the goals we conceded from set pieces, after having conceded one from a dead-ball situation at Éibar too.”

“It’s always positive when the coach places his trust in you. I feel really comfortable out there and am happy in myself. This is the team we started with today. We put in a great performance and we have to be ready for everything that lies ahead in April, when we’ve got some really key games.”
