Twenty Real Madrid players head out on international duty

Real Madrid, along with the rest of Europe, is currently on an international break with players leaving to join their national squads for a variety of games. Here are all the Real Madrid players that will be heading out.

Twenty players from Real Madrid’s first-team have joined their national teams to play a variety of friendlies. Below is a look at who will be joining their national team and when those matches will be taking place.

Spain

Almost half of the players leaving for international duty will be a part of Spain’s national squad. Six players will be with the senior team and three with the Under-21 squad.

Spain’s senior side will face off against Germany and Argentina over the course of the week and a half break. The senior side will be heading out to Düsseldorf to take on Germany at the Espirit Arena and then travel back to Madrid to play Argentina in the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Under-21 side will be partaking in two qualifying matches for the European Championships which will take place in 2019. The youngsters will first play Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in Belfast and Estonia at El Toralín stadium in Ponferrada.

Under-21 Squad Members

Portugal

There will only be one player from Real Madrid that will be playing with the Portuguese national team. Cristiano Ronaldo will captain his side once again for the two friendlies. Both matches will be played in Switzerland with the first against Egypt in Zurich and the second match against the Netherlands in Geneva.

Brazil

Both Marcelo and Casemiro have joined their national teammates in preparation for their friendly fixtures. Neither match will be played in their home nation.

The first game will be against Russia at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow and the second will be against Germany at the Olympic stadium in Berlin where they will see their fellow Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos.

Croatia

Veteran midfielder Luka Modric and youngster Mateo Kovacic will join the Croatian national team where they will play both their fixtures in the United States. The first game will be against Peru in Miami and the second against Mexico in Dallas, Texas.

Germany

Midfielder Toni Kroos has traveled back home to partake in two international friendlies as the current World Cup title holders will host both games. The first against Spain, and the second against Brazil in Berlin.

Wales

With Ryan Giggs taking charge of Wales’s national squad, he has elected to call up Gareth Bale to help lead the charge in the attack. Bale will be traveling to Nanning to participate in the China Cup. Wales will play the semifinal match against China and either the final or third and fourth place match four days later.

France

Senior Squad

Karim Benzema is still not a part of his national team, unfortunately, but defender Raphael Varane did get the call-up. Their first game will be in Saint-Denis Colombia and the second they will travel to Russia to play the host nation.

Under-20 National Team

Luca Zidane will be playing a doubleheader against the USA for France’s U-20 team. Both matches will take place at the Pinatar Arena Football Center, in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia.

Morroco

Achraf Hakimi has been called up by his country as they will play two friendlies in preparation for World Cup in Russia. Both matches will be played at home as they welcome Serbia for the first fixture and Uzbekistan for the second.

Costa Rica

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas will join his national side, but is fortunate to not have to travel across the pond. Both of Navas’ matches will take place in Europe.

The first match will be against Scotland in Glasgow and the second against Tunisia in Nice.

Players will return to Madrid after the conclusion of completing their duties with their national teams. Real’s first game back from the break will be on March 31, away to Las Palmas. Real Madrid will look to continue their chase for second place as they sit just four points behind their city rivals Atletico Madrid.
