Real Madrid defeated Las Palmas in La Liga but, that came at a cost as Nacho picked up an injury midway through the first-half. Here are the details of his injury.

Nacho Fernandez returned home to Madrid after joining the Spanish National Team over the international break and featuring as a substitute in the two friendlies. Nacho was given the green light from manager Zinedine Zidane against La Palmas in Real Madrid’s first La Liga fixture after the break.

Unfortunately for Nacho, he was unable to play the full 90-minutes.

In the 28th minute of the match at the Gran Canaria, Nacho was subbed off for Achraf Hakimi after pulling up with an apparent injury. Initial replays of the incident suggest an ankle injury but official reports have said otherwise. Nacho was assessed by the Sanitas Real Madrid Medical Services over the weekend.

According to Real Madrid’s official page, Nacho has suffered an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in the right thigh. This injury is more commonly known as a hamstring muscle injury. Common reasons for such an injury are due to the lack of warming or not doing so thoroughly.

As is Madrid fashion, the severity and grade of the injury was not shared nor was the estimated return time.

In the unfortunate event that he has suffered more than a grade 1 injury, Nacho could be out for a few weeks. Given that the Spaniard has traveled with the team to Italy ahead of the match against Juventus, his injury is unlikely to be severe.

Nacho shared a picture of appreciation via Twitter as fans wished him a speedy recovery after his visible injury. Translation: “A little bump on the way to get back even stronger! Already working to get back to the team. Thank you all for the messages.”

Nacho has been with Real Madrid since 2007 starting in their youth system. The center-back has not played anywhere else during his career. This injury marks his first in his professional career.

Considering he is 28-years-old, that is quite an incredible feat. Nacho has been lauded as the go-to defender for Real Madrid in the last few seasons. Let’s hope his injury is nothing serious.
