Real Madrid will meet up with familiar opponent Bayern Munich Wednesday at the Allianz Arena. This is a tremendous matchup for both teams, but especially Real Madrid who are out of the La Liga title race and Copa del Rey. Here we’ll see what formation Zidane might use and what’s best to get a crucial win.

The 4-3-3

The tactical formation chosen tomorrow evening may well be what makes or breaks the night against Bayern. The team is facing a Munich team that is hungry and ready to prove a point against back-to-back Champions, Real Madrid.

We all know that Zidane is unpredictable when it comes to choosing players and formations. So there is no possibility to rule out a possible 4-3-3 formation tomorrow. This sounds very much like 2014 and 2015 Real Madrid with BBC featuring in nearly every match. Though with how little we’ve seen of them this season, Zidane could be looking to spice things up and throw off Bayern.

With the 4-3-3 we would have Bale, Benzema, and Ronaldo up top. Followed by Kroos, Casemiro, and Modric in the midfield. Then our usual Marcelo, Varane, Ramos, and Carvajal in the back. This is all topped of with Keylor Navas in net.

The 4-3-3 could allow for very serious damage to be done on the wings with Ronaldo and Bale drifting about. Bale doesn’t thrive up top in a 4-4-2 playing center-forward. So maybe this will give him the chance of familiarity and find superb form in the first leg. Coupled with Ronaldo cutting in from the left wing, we could see the damage done very early on.

This formation also allows for a solid balance of defense and attack. With our top midfielders roaming and covering for the defense while also setting up the forwards for solid counter attacks.

The 4-4-2

If Zidane doesn’t opt for a 4-3-3 there is the staple 4-4-2 we have seen all season. With Zidane not likely to start Bale, we will see Benzema and Ronaldo up top. Followed by a possible  Asensio, Kroos, Casemiro, and Isco, then our usual defenders and keeper.

The 4-4-2 will allow for better coverage on the flanks for Marcelo and Dani while allowing an on form Isco and Asensio to do their damage to a possibly weakened Bayern side. This will be the most likely formation to start the match tomorrow.

Ronaldo has also thrived under the 4-4-2 this season. He’s put up ridiculous numbers while playing in a somewhat central role. but still allowed the ability to drift and find the space he needs. He is the team’s main goal scorer and the team must find a way to get the goals we need through him.

If push comes to shove, Zidane has called up the whole squad and does have reinforcements on the bench. There are many big decisions to make tomorrow that must be thought out logically. We must trust in the team and hopefully, they will pull through with the crucial away points tomorrow.
