Midfield

Casemiro – 6

It wasn’t Casemiro’s finest performance this season or in the Champions League to be exact. He didn’t drop deep enough at times to ward off Bayern’s attack. The Brazilian had flashes of brilliance through the game but will need to better in the second-leg if Madrid is going to make it through.

Lucas Vazquez – 8

Many people were shocked to see Lucas as part of the starting XI but they shouldn’t be, this page has expressed time after time how wonderful Vazquez has been. The winger has done well this seasons and while he didn’t pick up a goal he did register a nice assist with Marco Asensio. His movement around the left side of the pitch was wonderful for Real and when Dani Carvajal went off due to injury.

More from The Real Champs

Luka Modric – 7

Was Modric at his best? No. But he still bossed it through the midfield for most of the match moving the ball around with meaningful possession. His ability to unlock the opponents’ defense will be ever so important in the second-leg.

Toni Kroos – 7

Much like Modric, it was not Toni’s best performance as he traveled to his country to face-off against his old club. Ther German grew into the game but with it being so scrappy and back and forth found it hard to get a firm grip on the match and controlling the tempo as he saw fit.

Isco – 6

His performance was not the worst ever by him, but it was not the vintage Isco that we have become accustomed too. With the match being such so sloppy he found it hard to get his foot on the ball and was unable to outrun his opponents due to a lack of pace. Isco was substituted off at the half but it was a smart sub by Zizou. Thankfully he was seen celebrating with his manager when Asensio scored and did not throw any shots in the presser. Rumour has it that Isco has also picked up an injury.
