Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal in Sunday’s El Clásico, but came up limping after sliding into FC Barcelona center back, Gerard Pique. Here is an update on the Real Madrid forward and his status moving forward.

Every Madridista can relax in regards to CR7. It was announced Monday that the Portuguese international only suffered a sprained ankle in the 2-2 draw against Barca over the weekend and should be back for the Champions League Final against Liverpool in a few weeks.

According to reports from ESPNFC and Marca, the Real scorer should be out no longer than a week and a half while he recovers. This means he will miss both the mid-week match against Sevilla and the weekend match against Celta Vigo.

The way I see it, this is actually a good thing for Cristiano. He can rest up for the UCL Final and can give some depth players some much needed playing time before the end of the season.

Manager Zinedine Zidane said going into the Clásico that he wasn’t worried about any of his players picking up injuries. I bet he would want to recant that comment now after Ronaldo has picked up a knock.

While the club recap of the training session at the Valdebebas provided no update on Ronaldo’s status, it is assumed he worked in the gym with the training staff alongside Dani Carvajal who continues to recover from a hamstring injury suffered in the UCL semifinal first-leg against Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo could make his return to the pitch on May 20th when Real Madrid travel to face Villarreal and use it as a warm-up to the final which is set for six days after.

Thankfully, the injury is nothing serious. We all know that this means CR7 will come back better and more motivated than ever. Especially with it being the final of his third straight Champions League.

We will continue to monitor Cristiano’s status over the next couple weeks and continue to update the story.
