Lionel Messi says that Neymar to Real Madrid would be “terrible”
Real Madrid has been linked with Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. But, former teammate, Lionel Messi, is not to keen on the idea. Here are the details on his thoughts.
From the time Neymar made his move from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, there has a lot of speculation as to why. Some have said that Neymar wasn’t happy not being the main man at Barcelona. Others speculated that it was his way of moving to Real Madrid with a buffer in between the two rivals.
Speculation aside, former teammate Lionel Messi has spoken on the issue.
With the season winding down across Europe, the transfer rumors have picked up the pace. Real Madrid has been linked with Neymar yet again in an effort to better their immaculate squad. Messi, on the other hand, is not too happy with the idea of his former teammate joining the enemy.
Messi’s Comments
Messi sat down in an interview earlier this week with TyC sports, speaking on an array of topics, including his time at Barcelona. When asked about the idea of Neymar playing with Real, he responded by saying, “he already knows what I think. It would be a hard blow.”
Neymar was crucial to the success of Barcelona in his time with the club, which included an incredible treble. The Brazilian star left in hopes of being the fan favorite at his new club, but in doing so, broke many hearts at Barca.
Messi reiterated this sentiment during the interview saying, “it would be terrible if Neymar went to Madrid because of what it means for Barcelona.”

Of course, the addition of Neymar to any squad would make them more dangerous. Messi made it clear that the same would happen at Real Madrid and didn’t seem too happy about it. Lionel mentioned that, “it would make Madrid stronger than they are.”
Messi and Neymar combined for two La Liga titles, two Copa Del Rey’s, and a Champions League title in just three years. Next season could change the time though, with Neymar having to watch his former teammate play against him instead of with him.
It only makes sense that Real Madrid would like to add such a prolific player to their squad but it could be a hard pill to swallow for Messi and company. Barcelona fans alike will have some flashback to 2000 when Luis Figo made the deadly switch to the Santiago Bernabéu.
