#1 Cardiff 2017: Juventus 1-4 Real Madrid

With Ronaldo once again at the peak of his powers, Los Blancos were riding a wave of confidence. They were just the fourth side in Champions League history to reach the final a year after winning it. But also, the most likely to break the hoodoo and retain the crown.

Ronaldo, fresh off pummeling Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid for eight goals in four games, including back-to-back hattricks, was always going to have a big say on this history-making night. He broke the deadlock in just the 20th minute with a sumptuous finish from just outside the area.

Not happy at just becoming the first player to score in three finals, Ronaldo popped up with another one in the second half, Real Madrid’s third, to become the most prolific in the finals with four goals overall. That one effectively knocked the wind out of Juve’s sails, who then meekly conceded a fourth in the dying embers.

Real Madrid wrote themselves into the history books by successfully retaining the title. And Ronaldo, well, what more can we say about him?
