Lucas Vazquez

The right-winger has been a revelation this season with Real Madrid. Scoring the most goals in his professional career and surpassing his career high in assists with nine in league and Champions League play, Lucas earned the call-up to the World Cup squad.

Lucas is the only player heading to Russia this summer to not make an appearance at any youth level for España. In fact, the winger didn’t make his international debut until June 7, 2016, in a friendly against Georgia shortly before the Euro 2016 competition.

He only made one substitute appearance during the competition, coming in for Álvaro Morata in the 70th minute in was Spain’s final match of the tournament as they bowed out to Italy in the round of 16.

Vazquez has only made five appearances for the senior team now and has still yet to score a goal. His most recent appearance for the team came in March during the international break as he played 19 minutes against Germany.

Much like Marco Asensio, Vazquez is likely not to be a regular starter but could make several appearances off the bench in close matches.

While he has served Los Blancos well as both a starter and late substitute, the versatility and scrappiness of his play should entice manager Julen Lopetegui to give him ample playing time.

It is worth noting that Vazquez made the team ahead of former teammate and striker, Alvaro Morata, who despite playing more minutes in England with Chelsea, has seen a noticeable decline in goalscoring and overall form.
