It was only a week ago that things at Real Madrid appeared perfect. The team had just won their third successive Champions League final, everyone was excited about what transfers the summer would bring – it was calm. A mere matter of days later, a wicked storm sent the club into a whirlwind. Zinedine Zidane took the world by surprise and stepped down and now everything is up in the air, with a new chapter beckoning, Madrid cannot afford even a small mistake.

With Zidane now officially out the door, all the security of this summer is gone. The long-term future of players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale remains a mystery, other players are hinting at potentially seeking minutes elsewhere – how does a team who won three straight UEFA Champions League titles find themselves in such uproar?

Madridista’s worldwide are all asking endless questions – who will take over? What about Bale and Ronaldo? What about the squad players? Who will the club sign? Will this affect targets coming to the club? Questions swirl, minds are spinning, and yet, not a single question has yet been answered.

Florentino Perez’s expression painted the feelings of many around the world. Where do we go from here? The very second since Zidane’s announcement, news outlets and fans alike have speculated about what direction could be taken.

Does the club chase an established name in the likes of Arsene Wenger, Mauricio Pochettino, or Maurizio Sarri? Or, do they follow the same trick that worked previously and promote from within and bring Guti or Raúl to the fore?
