After a fantastic loan stint in the Segunda División, the hype around striker Raúl de Tomás is quickly growing. So much so in fact, Real Madrid will have to be wary of teams trying to poach him during the summer transfer window. Here is why the club should hold onto the goalscorer.

At least a couple teams in Spain are showing interest in the 23-year-old who helped Rayo Vallecano to promotion this season, according to reports from Marca. The one team who seems keen on signing the rising star is Madrid rival, Getafe CF.

Getafe owner Angel Torres has been speaking with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez and has told the head of the club that he is willing to spend a substantial amount to bring in de Tomás.

Los Azulones need some help at the center forward position as they were led by 31-year-old Angel Rodriguez who had 13 goals in 33 league appearances. Rodriguez’ future at the club is up in the air as of right now with some contract discussions going on. However, whether Rodriguez stays or goes is not the main problem in these transfer talks.

Torres has a bit of a problem on his hands as the Getafe first-team is currently made up primarily of players 25 and older. 10 of the current 32 players listed on the roster are 30 years or older. So, signing a young promising player while he is still relatively cheap makes sense.

However, Real Madrid should not sell the Spanish international just yet. After a jaw-dropping breakout season in the Second Division, whoever the new manager in the capital and President Perez should at least let Raúl get some playing time during the preseason before making a decision.

Scoring 24 goals and adding three assists in 32 appearances is impressive no matter the league quality. Plus, de Tomás has now spent the last three seasons on loa improving his game. Clearly, that was just what he needed as he finally found the finishing touch which will delight Madridistas.

Borja Mayoral proved to not be a very deadly depth striker, failing to make any real impact on matches if he didn’t get the ball serviced to him in the middle of the box. Based off of what I have seen from Raúl, his ability to score from set pieces, headers, or with strong individual efforts makes him a very exciting player to watch.

No, I don’t think Real Madrid should sell de Tomás, but if they get an enticing offer, they should at least consider it. I voiced my annoyance last summer about the club not bringing in more depth at the striker position and it affected them greatly all season as there were no quality options off the bench when Karim Benzema couldn’t score.

I’m anxious to see what Raúl de Tomás can do in Madrid after getting some quality experience over the last three years while on loan. Keep an eye on this guy during the preseason.
