Arsenal looking to lure away Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez
Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez is being chased down by English club Arsenal. The Gunners are said to be ready to splash the cash on the talented Spaniard, here are the details on the transfer rumor.
Lucas Vazquez has been tabled an offer by London club Arsenal. According to Spanish outlet OK DIARIO new manager, Unai Emery has made him a top target. Emery is a big fan of Vazquez who was a key part in knocking out his previous club Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 in the Champions League last season.
Emery was announced as the manager of Arsenal just a month ago as Arsene Wenger resigned from his what felt like forever tenure. Unai has been going on a signing spree in hopes of bringing effective change to his new club quickly. The Arsenal manager believes that Lucas is key to his plan and could thrive in the Premier League.
Arsenal is hoping to bring Lucas to London as the 26-year-old is arguably playing his the best football right now. The report states that Arsenal would triple his wages granting him a £7m a year contract. Currently, Lucas makes £60, 000 a week, but it is unlikely that money will be the deciding factor.
Lucas has been with Real Madrid since July of 2009 when he signed for the U18 squad. He then made his way up the ranks and into the Castilla with a couple of loan spells at Espanyol. Vazquez is known for his hard work and perseverent attitude and has expressed many times that Madrid has been the club of his dreams.
2017-2018 Season
Under Zinedine Zidane last season the right-winger played over 2, 800 minutes over 53 games of which he started 27. Lucas scored 8 goals and provide 16 assists over five competitions. His efforts paid dividends making him the sixth highest goal scorer and top assist man having five more than Karim Benzema who came second.
The right winger was ranked 12th in minutes played last season amongst outfield players. His reliability and fitness were evident as he was a part of the matchday squad 61 times out of Madrid’s 62 outings.

Despite not being in the starting XI as much as he would have liked, his team values and work ethic are what make him a great player. Lucas knows his role and place in the squad, he continuously works hard to better himself and those around him. Finding a player with loads of a talent and an ego that isn’t as big is hard to come by.
Staying Put
Zizou was a big fan of Lucas as he had many praises and more importantly, confidence in the player. The new manager of Real Madrid Julen Lopotegui is also a big fan of Lucas, choosing him for the Spain squad before being fired by the Spanish FA.
Real Madrid will need to be offered a huge sum of money to be persuaded into selling their workhorse of a player. Lucas is adored by the board and loved by the fans making it an easy decision for Real. More importantly, Vazquez is tied down to a contract with Los Blancos until June of 2021.
Madrid has benefited from having a plethora of attacking talent on their bench, selling Vazquez would mean one less option. With versatility in open play and ability to drop deep and cover the overlapping run is a key asset. Florentino Perez is also keeping his players with the team in the event new talent does not sign.
In an interview with MARCA earlier this week Lucas demonstrated his incredible work ethic. The Spanish international said “I work to be a starter,” when asked about getting few minutes this World Cup. His lack of entitlement is what makes him such an attractive player, he oozes class and positive vibes.
