Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is reportedly getting closer and closer to joining Real Madrid this summer. After rumors began to swirl that Los Blancos had agreed to personal terms with the 25-year-old, his current club, Chelsea signed a new goalkeeper.

Despite considerable interest in returning to play in Spain and even sporting a shirt that said ‘More Money’ while on summer vacation, the London based side are refusing to give up on the man who won the award for best goalkeeper at the 2018 World Cup.

Much like we heard just weeks ago with Eden Hazard, Real Madrid have agreed to personal terms with the former Atletico Madrid net-minder, but have yet to reach a deal with the club itself. So, what is the hold up in both of these deals?

There are two possible answers here: either, club owner Roman Abramovich is hesitant to give up two of his best players, or theses reports are all falsified for page views and attention. I find it hard to believe that this many websites and outlets across Europe would report on this if it was completely false.

What tips me to at least the Courtois deal holding some validity is that The Blues signed 38-year-old Rob Green for one season. No, he isn’t supposed to be the starter if Thibaut was to leave, but he would be a backup to Willy Caballero who would be the go to in net if the deal is completed soon.

The club Twitter can say what they want about Thibaut Courtois staying for this coming season, but if President Florentino Perez is determined enough, he has the money and the power to bring in one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now.

I think Keylor Navas has done more than enough in the last three seasons to maintain the starting role, but maybe the board and new coaches feel differently. Real has told Keylor they want to extend his deal to stay in the Santiago Bernabeu.

Next. Julen Lopetegui has already started making a difference in Real Madrid training. dark

If Perez can manage this, Madrid could very well have the best goalkeeping lineup in the world. Rotating between the two of these prolific players could be incredible.

There might be one thing that happens in the next couple of weeks that leads to Chelsea selling both Courtois and Hazard to Real Madrid in a package deal that would shake the football world to its core.

We will keep a close eye on this potential deal.
