Why Mateo Kovacic’s exit from Real Madrid isn’t so bad
Development of Current Players
The departure of Kovacic puts all the midfielders outside of the starting lineup one spot higher. With the probability of playing time increasing this allows for the development of our talent, something that is needed. Over the last few seasons, we’ve seen big names walk through the doors but not able to break into the first team.
Take Marco Asensio, the young Spaniard had some phenomenal performances over the past few years but is yet to cement himself. Being one of the hottest talents in European football and it’s still been hard for him. Other examples include players like Marcos Llorente and Dani Ceballos. Both have long football careers ahead of them, but meaningful minutes now will dictate their futures.
Not taking advantage of this open slot in the midfield could result in losing a top tier player. If players feel that they aren’t getting the development and opportunities at Real they’ll be likely to leave. Not giving the player the chance makes it hard to make a consensus. Take a look at Theo Hernandez, the wing-back didn’t get enough play time to grow and has now been loaned out to Real Sociedad.
