Real Madrid defender Álvaro Odriozola has suffered an injury to his right thigh. Here’s a look at the injury and what this means for the wing-back.

Rumours surfaced after the second game of the International Champions Cup that Álvaro Odriozola had sustained an injury. For an oddly peculiar reason, there was no official statement made by Real Madrid until now. Real made the announcement touching very lightly on the extent of his checkup.

Real Madrid’s medical partner Sanitas Medical Services conducted an examination on the player earlier this week. Álvaro’s “has been diagnosed with a grade one injury in the abductor of the right leg.” as per the statement put out by Madrid. The adductor muscle is more commonly referred to as the groin. Muscles can tear at multiple places but commonly happen at the joining point where the ligament also exists.

The statement mentioned that Álvaro’s progress will be tracked meaning that there is no definitive timeline for his return. Recovery time for a typical groin injury is around 10-14, this, of course, varies depending on severity and treatment. Real Madrid pointing out that this is merely a grade one injury are sure that he will be back. When the club does not want to share the extent of the injury, typically they will not make mention of its severity.

Of course, Odriozola will be working with the medical staff to come back as soon as possible. In retrospect, this is the best time to get injured if it is going to happen. There is no reason for the player to rush back to full fitness as there are other players who can cover if needed. Dani Carvajal will remain the first choice right-back making Nacho the likely replacement if Dani is unable to play.

Odriozola has been announced in the 29 man squad list that travelled to Estonia for the UEFA Super Cup. With so many players there is no need for him to feature but he has travelled with the squad to build a bond and learn from his teammates. On the flip side, we may get to see the other young talent feature, Vinicus Jr.
