Three takeaways from Real Madrid’s 2-0 win vs Getafe
BBA looks good
Bale and Benzema only had 36 and 17 touches in the first half, well below the average of 50+ the rest of the team had. However, the two forwards were extremely efficient with their time on the ball. Amongst Bale’s few involvements in the first half was a header that rattled the crossbar and a cross that led to Madrid’s opening goal. Benzema’s first-half highlight saw him embarrass Getafe’s entire left flank with a single feint and was only lacking the goal come to the full-time whistle.
Both players were much more involved in the second half along with Asensio who also followed a decent first half with an emboldened second. The young Spaniard single-handedly made Gareth Bale’s second-half strike that sealed the game. Pick-pocketing the Getafe centre back of possession, Asensio persisted with the move even when it seemed dead and buried, finding the space for a superb cross that Bale graciously converted. Outside of the goals, BBA linked up well and look dangerous for the upcoming season. Madrid now has four goals against two of last season’s two best defences with Getafe finishing third having conceded just 33 goals.
Off last season table, Girona had the sixth-worst defence in the league and the appointment of Eusebio Sacristan, whose Real Sociedad conceded 21 goals in six league fixtures against Real Madrid, offer a chance to Bale, Benzema and Asensio to continue to build form and silence the critics.
