Analyzing Real Madrid’s Champions League opponents in group G

Viktoria Plzen
This one’s a duck soup. The Czech outfit is making a return to Europe’s elite competition after a gap of five years, and this will also mark only their third ever appearance in the Champions League.
The last time they were in the pot, Bayern Munich and Manchester City made mincemeat of the team, though Plzen did salvage consolation in the final group game by beating… CSKA Moscow!
Nevertheless, Plzen really shouldn’t be a challenge for any of the teams in the group, let alone Real Madrid. The sides haven’t met before, but it doesn’t matter given the gulf in class and experience (with all due respect to them).
Interestingly, the first leg is scheduled four days prior to El Clasico at the Camp Nou, while the return leg takes place just days before a visit to the Balaidos to face Celta Vigo.
But that still may not have repercussions in Real Madrid’s quest for all six points in this duel.
