3 reasons why Vinicius Jr. won’t return to Brazil
Real Madrid’s Vinicus Jr has been rumoured to return to Brazil due to his lack of time with the first team, but is this a valid reason and could he really go back?
Vinicus Jr. is arguably the biggest arrival this summer transfer window despite being just 18 years-old. The Brazilian made his move from Flamengo after a bit of resistance from his former club for a reported €45 million. The youngster spent a lot of time with Real Madrid during the preseason but has yet to feature in a La Liga match thus far.
Marca reported earlier this week that a clause in his contract permitted him to return to Flamengo until July of 2019. The clause was put in place in the event that Vinicius was not settling into Real Madrid. Many have been surprised that despite his pre-season form he has been sent down to the Castilla.
Thankfully his agent has shut down the rumour very quickly as well as dismissing that any such clause exists in his contract. Vinicius’ agent, Frederico Pena told Globo Esporte “There is no option like that in his contract. We are following the plan exactly to the letter. Because of this, a return to Flamengo in January is improbable.”
Logically though, this is a wise move from Real Madrid. If the Brazilian was to stay with the first team it is unlikely he would get minutes. It was of utmost importance for Julen Lopotegui and the club to start off on the right foot. In the event, Madrid was to lose with players like Asensio and Isco sitting on the bench the backlash would have been immense.
Allowing Vinicius Jr. to stay with the Castilla team has three advantages; development and growth of his game, he can easily be called up and has the ability to train with the first team.
1 – Development and Growth
Keeping Vinicius with the Castilla allows him to develop and enhance his game under the eye of the organization. With the Brazilian close to home, Madrid can track his progress with ease. Having him back in his home country would make this a little more challenging.
Staying within Real Madrid will ensure that he learns and understands the Madrid way of playing the game. A solid understanding of the Real Madrid culture will be pivotal to his gameplay in the coming years.
The proof is in the pudding and so far Real Madrid’s plan has been working. Sure he could have been sent to a lower sided team in La Liga but at that point Madrid has no control over Vincius playing time. Thus far the 18 year-old has been setting the Castilla on fire and has been a great addition to the team.
