Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio is off to a hot start in the 2018/2019 campaign for both club and country. On Tuesday night, the talent from Mallorca scored a goal and assisted on three more as Spain dominated Luka Modric and Croatia.

Marco Asensio was everywhere it seemed as Spain handed Croatia their worst loss in national team history. In just the second match of the UEFA Nations League, Spain showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with despite a premature exit from the 2018 World Cup.

With youth spread across the starting XI and the bench, manager Luis Enrique had his side clicking on all cylinders. Real Madrid had their fair share of players on the pitch as Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Dani Carvajal, and Isco all started.

The goalscoring began in the 24th minute with Saúl finishing off a brilliant cross from right-back Dani Carvajal. Marco Asensio soon put his name on the stat sheet with a stunning goal from 30 yards out, easily beating goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

The strike is not all that surprising for Madridistas as Marco has been known to score goals like this.

He should’ve made it a second goal in just three minutes, but after hitting the crossbar with another shot from long distance, the ball bounced off the back of Kalinic and found its way into the corner.

Despite leading 3-0 going into the half, Enrique’s men did not sit back. Instead, they gained more and more confidence and dominated possession. Asensio first assisted Rodrigo Moreno with a great pass putting the striker in alone on goal before placing a corner kick perfectly on the head of center back Sergio Ramos to make it 5-0.

If you thought Marco was done there, guess again, as he set up close friend and club teammate, Isco, for the sixth and final tally of the night.

Going back and watching the highlights, the vision from Asensio to find Isco in the middle of the box is simply uncoachable. Although he has been a member of the first team in Madrid for two full seasons, it never fails to surprise world football fans with how complete his game is.

The Real Madrid number 20 was thrilled with his individual performance as well as the performance of his teammates after the match.

“It was a great game. We’re ending a get-together which went really well in every way and with our fans today we have been loved. It was really good playing here.”

Marco was not the only Madrid player who received significant praise following the win as Dani Ceballos had a career night working in the midfield.

All in all, it was a night to remember for La Roja and a night Real Madrid fans will not forget anytime soon. The handful of players who were called up to the national team will make their way back from Elche to the capital either tomorrow or Wednesday as they begin preparations for Athletic Bilbao this weekend.
