Injuries and Suspensions

Roma currently has just one player that is injured but none that are suspended. The injured player is Javier Pastore, who has been a part of the starting XI and a big loss to Roma.

Starting XI and Tactics

Starting XI

Roma has been struggling in their current Serie A campaign due to a number of changes that have taken place at the club. As of now, they have played four matches in their domestic campaign but only have five points to show for. Roma is having problems on their defensive end as well, as they have conceded seven goals, the same amount that they have scored.

The starting XI will consist of Olsen between the sticks with Florenzi, Manolas, Fazio and Kolarov in front of them. With Pastore out of commision, the midfield three will see Rossi, Nzonzi and Pellegrini. In the final will be Under, Dzeko and El-Shaarawy.

Tactics

Roma has been playing with a 4-3-3 on paper but on the pitch, it looks more like a 4-5-1 or a 3-5-2. With the absence of Javier Pastore, both Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante will be fighting for a spot in the midfield. Di Francesco loves making use of his wingers and constructing play down the sides of the pitch. This will make for an interesting game as Madrid do a fair amount of this as well.

Eden Dzeko will be looking to meet the train at the station as balls will be coming in with pace. The Bosnian is ever present in the air, using his tall frame to his advantage. Eusebio and his staff have all taken note of Madrid’s high defensive line. Playing balls in behind them will be something they look forward to doing.
