Raphael Varane

Rank – 58

Grade – 86

It’s a huge jump from Asensio to Varane in the rankings but that just goes to show you what consistent minutes and maturity can do for a player. Varane is undoubtedly one of the best centre-backs in the world. At just 25 years of age, he’s already accomplished things players won’t in their entire careers.

His top three attributes were defence, pace, and physicality and many would oblige to that. The Frenchman scored 86, 84 and 80 respectively for those categories. The reigning world champion is quick on his feet giving him that great score for his pace and of course ability to tackles players intelligently and make key clearances. The center-backs lowest score was a 45 in shooting and that is hard to gauge considering we don’t see him shoot very often.

Gameplay Tip

Varane is, of course, someone you’re going to want to have in your defensive line, his big yet agile frame is great to jockey so you don’t have to make a risky tackle. Standing at 6’4 coordinate your set pieces so he can get his head on the ball, he isn’t easy to defend.

Keylor Navas

Rank – 52

Grade – 87

The men between the sticks don’t always get the recognition they deserve, but Navas almost breaking the Top 50 surely does a good job of doing so. The Costa Rican was once again key to Real Madrid’s Champions League success, despite a few awkward mistakes.

The netminder earned himself an incredible 90 in both diving and reflexes. His scoring for both those categories is greatly deserved, as we’ve seen on countless instances he has shown the ability to stop penalties and close range shots. Keylor leaps through the air like a panther, robbing opponents of what would have been golazos.

Oddly enough new keeper Thibaut Courtois was ranked higher than Navas, this season will determine whether it is in fact true.

Gameplay Tip

It’s hard to give tips for the keeper when AI does the work for you, but know that you can rely on Navas if you’re being pressed. He’s cool on his feet and can handle the ball if you wish to play it back.
