Wasting set pieces

Real Madrid won the league title in 2016/17 because of their depth, comebacks, and set pieces.

Los Blancos scored an impressive 11 goals off an Xg of 8.39 from corners and scored nine goals off an xG of 6.58 from set pieces. Last season, Madrid scored 14 goals from corners, once again out performing their Xg for these chances by nearly four goals.

This season, not only have Real Madrid not scored from a set play, they have hardly created a scoring chance from one.

Real Madrid has created an xG of about three goals from 33 set plays, with a meagre xG 1.12 coming from the 18 corners.

It is disappointing how wasteful and nonchalant Madrid has become about dead ball situations, especially when they comfortably lead the fouls won per game metric this season.
