Eden Hazard has been linked with Real Madrid for months on end or even years at this point, could this winter transfer window finally be the time?
This story has come and gone plenty of times, more than some fans would like to count. Eden Hazard has expressed his affinity for the Spanish giants once again. During the summer transfer window national and club teammate, Thibaut Courtois made his way to Real Madrid. Upon Courtois move, he suggested that the attacker does the same.
European football is currently on hold with the second international break taking place. The Chelsea forward joined the Belgian National Team for a couple of fixtures. After the final match before the break which took place against Southampton, Hazard spoke to the press on Los Blancos.
During his interview he said that “Real Madrid is the best club in the world,” he continued to say. “I don’t want to lie, it is my dream since I was a kid.
"“In my head, sometimes I wake up in the morning and think I want to go. Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision. It is my future. I am 27 and I will turn 28 in January.”"
Hazard did mention that he is struggling with time though and that, of course, is a factor. Currently 27, the winger is in his prime and playing some of his best football. In January he will turn 28 and knows full well the clock is ticking and time isn’t slowing down.
At the same time though it has been a lifelong goal of his saying “It is also when you have a dream and you want to make it happen. It is like I have said a lot of times: if I leave I will be happy, I know if I stay I will be happy.”
Eden has seemed to have eased off the idea with the changes that have been made at Chelsea. With the addition of new manager Sarri and a turnaround in the season, things are looking up. The one thing that is lacking though is Champions League football. Hazard will have to wait until next season to take another crack at the competition if he chooses to stay with the Blues.
The Belgian would be a great addition to Real Madrid though, especially considering the struggles in recent weeks. Unlike in many mid-season transfers, Eden is completely available to Real Madrid in all competitions. As a result of Chelsea not making the Champions League, he would not be cup-tied.
The only question now is, will Florentino Perez flip the switch on the transfer?
