The goalkeeper debate continues

The debate rages on. Who is the actual ‘starting’ goalkeeper for Real Madrid? It was assumed by many – including us here at the Real Champs – that Keylor Navas was going to be the go-to guy in net in UCL matches.

Considering what Keylor has done the last three years, it makes a lot of sense. But, Thibaut Courtois got his first start of the season in the competition and earned yet another clean sheet.

Keylor has had, in my opinion, better performances this season and has made some big stops in big matches, but, Courtois is a world-class keeper.

It is one of the most interesting situations you will ever see on a football team and it is even rarer that you have two goalkeepers who were on the short list of best goalkeepers in the Champions League a season ago.

This debate, I’m sure, will continue to rage on, but is there really a need to debate who should be the regular starter? When you have two guys of this quality, just enjoy it and reap the rewards.
