First Half

The early goings of the match were reminiscent of the midweek Champions League fixture against Viktoria Plzen. Celta Vigo started off strong and took the game to Madrid creating several great chances. Vigo very well could have been up by at least a goal inside the first 20 minutes after a header hit the post, with Ramos coming in to clear up any second chance opportunities.

Real opened up the scoring in the 23-minute of the match after a great play between Luka Modric and Karim Benzema. The Croatian put in a great ball over the top for the Karim who spun away from his defenders firing the shot to the goalies left and out of reach. It was a brilliant display of composure from the Frenchman who has now scored in back to back games.

Madrid pushed on in an effort to score a second goal before the closing in the half. Things got a little chippy at some points as Vigo struggled to get a grip on the match. Referee Alberto Mallenco handed out four yellow cards in the final 8 minutes of the first half. Three of which were shown to the home side.
