Los Blancos traveled to the Stadio Olimpico as they took on AS Roma for Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League. Any UCL game is a big one, but after the team’s embarrassing defeat against Eibar, a win was crucial to turn things around.

After Solari was handed his first loss as manager of the first team, he elected to switch up the squad and go with a different starting XI. The addition of Lucas Vazquez seemed like a very Zidane-esque move. With Casemiro unavailable, he was replaced by Marcos Llorente, and the Spaniard certainly earned his keep.

Real Madrid lined up in its usual 4-3-3 which looked to be exploited at times due to their wingbacks flying high. Thankfully in the second half, some of those quirks were corrected as they headed down the right path.
