Real Madrid has teamed up with video game giants EA Sports to create a limited edition jersey. Here are the details on the collaboration and how you can get your hands on it.
Every September, EA Sports releases the latest version of FIFA, their depiction of soccer in a video game. Along with the other titles they produce, EA Sports boast some of the best gameplay available. The game is sold for both the PlayStation and Xbox amongst other platforms with fans waiting in masses to get their hands on the latest edition.
In addition to updated rosters, gameplay and several other features, the footballer who is placed on the cover is always a big deal. The past couple of years have seen Cristiano Ronaldo grace the front of the casing as he has been prolific on the European stage.
Months after the release of FIFA 19 both EA Sports and select clubs have teamed up to keep the hype going. In the game, those playing the game can select different kits that their team use in real life. Every so often FIFA creates a rendition of the clubs jerseys that users can unlock if they can beat certain challenges.
This year, EA Sports took it all a step further by taking the in-game jersey and bringing it to real life. The video game company teamed up Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and of course, Real Madrid. It’s no secret that EA Sports picked the biggest teams in four of the five biggest leagues in Europe.
Yesterday the club released a promotional video on its official Twitter account to make the announcement. On the official Real Madrid site, they released a statement in which they explained the color scheme behind the kit.
The jersey pays homage to the club’s Galactico era which took place around the turn of the century. With a navy-blue color and studded white, it is meant to be a depiction of the night sky in Madrid. The jerseys are made from a soft material which is soft to the skin while also possessing Adidas’ breathable technology
The jerseys are already available at Real Madrid stores around the world. Real Madrid had the jerseys for sale on their Spanish website but sold out in just a couple of hours. It will become available on Adidas’ North American site on December 11th.
Adidas also announced that there were only 7,000 jerseys made for each of the four teams that are a part of the collaboration. The limited number, of course, increases the novelty of the piece. At least if you can’t get your hands on it in real life you can enjoy it through the video game.
