The governing body of South American football has agreed with Real Madrid to host the second leg of the Copa Libertadores at the Santiago Bernabéu. Here are the details.

Club president Florentino Perez has made an interesting decision to agree to allow River Plate face Boca Juniors on December 9th in Madrid. After the second leg was postponed due to River Plate fans attacking the Boca Juniors bus before the match, the deciding leg will take place abroad.

The Copa Libertadores Final between River Plate and Boca is the first time the two sides were slated to go head-to-head. After a 2-2 draw in the first leg at La Bombonera – the home of Boca – the second leg was slated to take place on November 24th.

River Plate fans attacked the bus carrying the away side to the stadium, breaking the windows of the bus and throwing objects at the bus. In order to break up the chaos, police intervened by deploying tear gas to scatter the crowd.

Initially, the match was moved to the following afternoon, but after several complaints from the Boca Juniors board to CONMEBOL, the match was postponed until further notice.

This afternoon the agreement was reached with both teams and the governing football body with Real Madrid and its board. The president of CONMEBOL was incredibly upset with the fan’s actions and let them know about it in a press conference days ago.

It was determined by the South American football board that the match must be played before the FIFA Club World Cup gets underway on December 12th.

Real Madrid will play at Huesca on the day of the Copa final in its home stadium. Madridstas have had a very interesting reaction to the news of the match being held in the Bernabéu:

It is a very interesting move for Real Madrid who will play on the same pitch Wednesday of that week against CSKA Moscow in the final match of the Champions League group stage.

I personally think that this is a really cool thing to take place in Madrid. Two bitter rivals facing off in a huge cup final? This is exactly what it would be like if Real Madrid hosted FC Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final in the Bernabéu.

I really hope that nothing crazy will go on outside of the stadium preventing the match from happening again. I really want to way this match!
