Are Real Madrid a ‘business’ club? Ronaldo’s comments are partly justified.
Was all this necessary?
To conclude, both sides are right in their way. But for common fans like us, both sides are partly at fault here. Cristiano’s humility comment is just not said rightly when he was the biggest culprit of it. Some of the things said from Madrid’s players could definitely have been worded better. And Madrid fans should take a close look at themselves and their club before being outraged over the ‘family’ comment.
Were these comments unnecessary? Yes, they could have been avoided. But it’s obvious that Ronaldo hasn’t left on an amicable note with Perez, and these things were bound to come out at some point. He feels that he was pushed out, not respected and loved enough in recent years. His anguish is justified too, the best player of the club deserved to be treated specially. But like I said before, Real Madrid is essentially a business club.
He can speak his heart out on Perez / Madrid board, but I hope he measures his words when he speaks about the fans or the players because most of us are still his die-hard supporters. The club and players should also be mindful of what they say because tarnishing his legacy is not good for either party. Cristiano Ronaldo’s name is etched in Madrid’s history as their highest goal-scorer, and he is the single biggest reason for the turn in Madrid’s fortunes post the banter era. Real Madrid enjoyed their best years in recent times with Cristiano. Similarly, Cristiano also had his most successful period, both individual and collective, with Real Madrid. He symbolized Real Madrid.
They may bicker for a while and looks like they will, but hopefully, with time, this too shall pass. And as Real Madrid said in their farewell note, Bernabeu will always be Cristiano’s home. Hopefully, after some time, he will come around to where he truly belongs. Like the way Casillas and Raul have; despite the short-term animosities, they are Madridistas at heart. And I believe, so is Cristiano.
