Question 1 – Winter business:

MADRID, SPAIN – DECEMBER 09: Exequiel Palacios of River Plate celebrates with the Copa Libertadores Trophy following his sides victory in the second leg of the final match of Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores 2018 between Boca Juniors and River Plate at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on December 9, 2018, in Madrid, Spain. Due to the violent episodes of November 24th at River Plate stadium, CONMEBOL rescheduled the game and moved it out of Americas for the first time in history. Quite a lot of you have asked about the winter window, naturally, of course! It is just weeks away and Madrid has had quite the turbulent season to date. You can sort of envision a question within a question here, does Madrid need to take action in this window? My answer is an emphatic yes! Do I think they will? To an extent, yes. Although, big spending? Unlikely.

Madrid has never typically operated in winter windows gone by, however, they never have really had to. A consistent goal scorer was there in Cristiano Ronaldo and the team wasn’t on a decline like it is now. Ronaldo is now gone and we are seeing this squad age, not like fine wine either. The lack of fluidity in attack is alarming – probably the most alarming thing about the team right now outside of the fact that larger parts of the main core are also past 30.

In terms of a prediction? The signing of Exequiel Palacios seems all but a foregone conclusion, it’s a case of when over if. Although, I doubt he’ll come straight to Madrid. Outside of him? I’m not very hopeful. Rumour has it they will chase Mauro Icardi following the exit of Inter Milan from the UEFA Champions League, however, it’s unlikely they’ll let him leave midseason. I personally don’t expect much from this window… It’s kind of disappointing. Want an article on this?  Get at us on Twitter!
