As mentioned earlier, I believe this team is really not good enough in the attack right now. Creating chances isn’t so much the problem, it’s putting them away. Currently, we’re 4th best attack in Spain, which doesn’t sound awfully bad right? Wrong. When you consider that Levante and Celta Vigo, both of which are lower in the table, have scored more, that doesn’t make for pretty reading. Add this to the fact that we don’t have a single player in the top 10 goal scorers in the league and you’re seeing the emerging pattern.

So, who should we target, I hear you ask? Well, there isn’t a huge array of talent that is available realistically speaking. So hypothetically, who would I target? My answer is one of Mauro Icardi, Memphis Depay and/or Anthony Martial. Both Depay and Icardi are having solid seasons in front of goal, Icardi particularly. Martial? He’s a player that could offer us some option out wide who also brings a goal threat. With Bale and Asensio both floundering, we are in need of options. If we can even get two of the three, that would be sufficient in my eyes. It may also save our xG, which we are underperforming in at every level…

Elsewhere on the field? There isn’t much I would change. Defensively we’re improving when you consider how many injuries we’ve had. So I wouldn’t change a whole lot there or in the middle of the park for that matter. What we need are goals!
