Just hours after being sacked by Manchester United, Jose Mourinho, is being linked with a return to Spain. He left in 2013 but is allegedly still a favourite of Florentino Perez.

Reports are circulating that Jose Mourinho could be making a return to Spain as Real Madrid manager. He was sacked by Manchester United earlier today following a poor start to the season, however, Perez feels he is the right man to take the job and oversee the squad overhaul.

The Portuguese manager endured an up and down tenure in Madrid – despite having a record-breaking league title-winning season in 2012, he fell out with key members of the squad and large parts of the fanbase. However, that hasn’t deterred the club president who still admires the coach.

The relationship between the two, according to The Independent is healthy. Perez is reportedly planning a huge squad overhaul in the summer and feels Jose is the man to oversee this.

Marcelo recently discussed the matter: “His sacking is a pity as he is a great coach and for him to be without a club is a pity,” he told reporters. “It’s not for me to say if he should come to Real Madrid, but I really appreciate all he did for me at this club.”

Madrid has only just changed coach this season with Santiago Solari taking over from Julen Lopetegui only months ago. However, Solari also discussed the matter: “How would I be worried about rumours or speculation about Real Madrid? It happens every day, it is just part of our reality.”

Despite the rumours, Madrid is currently preparing to retain the Club World Cup crown in Abu Dhabi, they take on Kashima Antlers in their opening game at the tournament.
