Sometimes, you have to wonder what a player like Karim Benzema is still doing at a club like Real Madrid. He has, undeniably, played an instrumental part in some of the club’s success in the years gone by. But considering his struggles since the last year – it’s actually eons ago.
Benzema’s precipitous fall from grace is well-documented and even in the absence of Ronaldo, he hasn’t reconjured his best. Perhaps that’s down to his chronic subservience of feeding and putting things on the plate for others that he has to strain every sinew to even get an effort on target, let alone in the back of the net.
This Christmas (like the last), all the Frenchman would wish to drop from his chimney is a nice, glittering pair of shooting boots that can end his dry spell.
