Defenders

Daniel Carvajal – B+
Got injured for a while but whenever he was called upon, he always did his job well. So far, it has been a good campaign for him and I don’t see any reason why that may change as the season goes on.

Alvaro Odriozola – B
A new recruit last summer from Real Sociedad, Alvaro Odriozola got into the squad faster than many would have probably expected. He has had his ups and downs but there is no denying his abilities and how important he can potentially be for us.

Jesus Vallejo – N/A
Not enough appearances this season due to injury. Whenever he did get a chance to play, his positioning and defensive capabilities are a little worrying as he’s in desperate need of match fitness. It will be interesting to see if Los Blancos will want to loan him out or use him until the end of the season.

Sergio Ramos – B-
Our captain has shown up in the big moments as usual but continues to disappear or not be able to play as he usually does with it comes to the ‘smaller’ moments. Nevertheless, he has proven his commitment and we accept it with the good and the bad.

Raphael Varane – C+
Started the season worryingly as he wasn’t up to the standard that we have grown accustomed to from him, which probably has to do with a very hectic summer during the World Cup and unable to really have time to rest. In recent weeks though, it seems like he finally is finding his form again and it’s always a wonderful sight.

Nacho Fernandez – C+
Very unfortunate to find himself on the injury list but had an average campaign before that. Nacho is still his dependable self and has always been up for any challenge put in front of him.

Marcelo – C
This was a difficult one for our vice-captain. He hasn’t been at his best this season albeit having a few moments of brilliance. He will need to improve as a demanding second half of the season is on the way.

Sergio Reguilon – A-
One of the players chosen from Castilla to join the first team this season, Sergio Reguilon has exceeded everyone’s expectations. The young Spanish left-back got more playing time that he probably would have expected but he always rose up to the occasion and came out fighting.
