After a dismal first half of the season without one of the greatest of all time leading the forward line on his traditional left side, Real Madrid must quit looking back and start the new year – apart from the recent defeat to a great Real Sociedad – by only having one word in mind: Winning.

I am sure all of you know the eternal DNA that is within the Real Madrid culture, which is winning. This is where the true leaders of the team must take the reigns and guide this team to a better second half of the season, and hopefully lift at least two trophies which are still extremely manageable: the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

There should not be any panic to buy as many players as possible this transfer window. In fact, the team itself, both on paper and off, is an extremely talented side with undoubtedly the best midfielder in the world, one of the best midfield partnerships, and one of the world’s best back fours.

Yes, this summer the wrong acquisitions were made to try and cope with the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, however, we as football fans and Real Madrid fans should not be demanding the exit of president Florentino Perez.

A world class player such as Harry Kane, Mauro Icardi, Paul Pogba, David Silva, or Eden Hazard should have been the player dubbed as the newest ‘Galacticos’.

Closed-door meetings between players should be done more often, a change in formation must be pondered, and Madrid players need to be reminded that the club they play for is not some mid-table team, it is arguably the greatest side to have ever played a football match.

My personal suggestion to immediately aid Real Madrid in returning to the best team in the world would be to maintain the 3-5-2 formation we saw against Real Betis and bring in none other than Antonio Conte as their coach.

Putting Marcelo as the widest left midfielder, and Isco on the right-wing with the freedom to roam the pitch and create chances would drastically change the way this team plays. Up front, this would allow Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema to create space for one another and create plenty of goal-scoring chances from crosses being swung in by Marcelo and Isco.
