Jose Mourinho has been out of work for several weeks now and doesn’t seem to be looking for a new role but said he would find it a ‘tremendous honour’ to return to Real Madrid. How possible could that move be?

The Portuguese manager has been out of a job for several weeks now and rumour has it he can be employed at one of his old clubs. After his falling out at Manchester United at the end of 2018, Jose could return to the Capital of Spain.

Real Madrid has been handed their fair share of the struggle this season with managers heavily criticised. Florentino Perez picked Julen Lopetegui during the World Cup, a move that cost the manager his job with the Spanish National Team. After a disastrous start to the season, he would then be sacked and replaced by Santiago Solari.

Solari’s start was formidable coming up against some decent teams and along with plenty of goals coupled with clean sheets. Further down the schedule, Real faced off against stiffer competition which revealed the true vulnerabilities that were present.

With the kitchen on fire at the Bernabeu, Perez could look to replace Solari as well. Jose was the coach with Los Blancos for three years from 2010.

In an interview with Portuguese outlet, Correo da Manha Mourinho said: “If any professional — a manager or a player — is wanted by a former club, it means we did something positive,”. Saying that has driven the speculation of a return.

Jose continued on to say “When any professional returns to a club it is a tremendous honour. They’re not signing someone they don’t know, they are going for someone they know, someone who has already been there.”

That familiarity with the organisation makes his chances of signing with Real even higher. Already knowing the ins and outs of Madrid is beneficial, giving him a running start.

Weeks later Javier Tabas was asked about the rumours about Mo’s return to La Liga on Catalan radio station Rac 1 “He is a great coach and I don’t think it would be bad for La Liga,”

Tabas did admit that he is unsure of where he would go but pointed out with confidence he would be great of the league. “From a spectacle standpoint, it would be good, although I don’t know which club he would go to.”
