Junior Firpo has burst onto the scene this season in La Liga for Real Betis. A young and energetic player, the Brazilian put on a show at the Nou Camp as Real Betis ran out 4-3 victors over the Catalans. Firpo won Man of the Match with a goal scored in the game, he fired off 2 shots, whilst only completing the one dribble, he made 2 tackles, made one interception, made 2 key passes and he made a total of 4 clearances – an all action performance.

So far this season he has offered a 4 goal contributions in 15 appearances. Averaging a shot per game, 0.9 key passes, 1.7 dribbles – he clearly is capable offensively from his wing-back position. However, he is no slouch defensively either, he completes 1.7 tackles, 1 interception and 1.2 clearances per 90 minutes.

When compared to Madrid’s current roster at left-back, Firpo betters all the numbers of Marcelo defensively and offensively doesn’t fair too badly – he is only bettered by Marcelo for key passes per game. Whilst I am not saying he is better, given he decline and age of Marcelo – Firpo could be a worthy successor. Reguilon is showing solid potential this season too, with Madrid having been linked, the two could put up a worthy battle at the left-back slot.
