Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari gave no ideas to the media as to what his Real Madrid squad will look like on Wednesday night. At his press conference ahead of the Copa del Rey semifinal against FC Barcelona, Solari was tight-lipped.
“There are no definite starters in football,” the Real Madrid boss bluntly responded with to a question regarding whether or not Vinícius Júnior would start in the Camp Nou. The gaffer kept this same demeanor throughout his meeting with the press as he looked ahead to the big match-up in less than 24 hours.
This will be Solari’s first trip to the hallowed stadium as the manager of Los Blancos, so the pressure could weigh on him.
Although most of his comments were reserved, there was a clear spark in energy when asked he was asked what it would be like to manage in a match of this importance.
"“We’re expecting a very nice match, it’s a Clásico and we hope that everyone will enjoy it. We hope to put in a big performance and win.”"
Fans around the world are trying to figure who each manager will elect to start in a cup tie this big. Solari was not willing to give any inside information into his preparation as he shot down question after question.
“Every player contributes what they have,” he said of Gareth Bale. “Some more offensive and others more defensive.” The boss wouldn’t give a straight answer as to whether Vinícius would be deployed to the left-wing either.
I personally have no problem with Solari not giving out any details. He doesn’t have to, so why should he! There is no doubt Barca and its coaching staff would hear the same news and adjust the gameplan accordingly.
One of the most interesting comments of the presser was in regards to the month ahead and the congested schedule.
"“It’s strange that the fixtures are like this. Hopefully, it’s not deliberate. Those are issues for those who organize the fixtures, LaLiga. We must perform to our best and that’s it.”"
This is without a doubt the most difficult three matches in a row Real Madrid will play for several years (I hope). Let’s hope Santiago Solari can keep this laser-like focus on the pitch Wednesday night in the heat of the match.
