Substitution

Gareth Bale – 6

Bale played for just under 30-minutes and had one of the best opportunities of the match but his trickery got the better of him. Playing Vazquez ahead of the Welshman proved to be the right decision in the end.

Casemiro – 6.5

Casimiro came on for Llorente who seemed to have picked up a knock, warranting his participation in the match. He put in a great shift with two interceptions and tackles, though he did look a little lethargic at first.

Marco Asensio – 7

Another good game of the bench for the wonderkid. Back from injury, Asensio did well to help build up play and get some chances for Real. Getting back into the rhythm of things you should expect to see his playing time increase.

Conclusion

All in all, it was a good game for Madrid and they played better than many have expected. Going into the second-leg the midfield will be key as Messi is very likely to start. In addition, either Reguilon should start or Marcelo better steps up as Malcom abused him all match long. The away goal means a lot but the second-leg will by no means be easy. Tight defense and a high press will thoroughly help out.
