Real Madrid continued their revival with an emphatic 3-1 win over crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano to trim gap at the top to only five points.

Casemiro, Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale all scored apiece as Antoine Griezmann’s first-half leveler was rendered false dawn.

Los Blancos not only enjoyed a greater share of possession but also exuded great confidence and conviction as their neighbors were uncharacteristically sloppy and despicably rash. They were also reduced to 10-men in the final throes of the game with Thomas Partey sent off, adding more insult to the injury.

The victory propels Solari’s men provisionally within five points of leaders Barcelona as their title charge breathes a new life with five league victories on the trot.
