Real Madrid’s five best goals against Ajax
By Yasheel Vyas
The Champions League is right around the corner and Real Madrid faces a team which they faced a lot during the Jose Mourinho era, AFC Ajax.
The first leg is of the round of 16 will take place at the Johan Cruyff Arena and Ajax do look a much better side than before, though they are not in great form coming into this tie.
Real has loved playing Ajax in recent years and has scored some memorable goals against them in an always high-scoring affair. The last five meetings between the teams have resulted in a total of 20 goals and 18 of those were scored by the Los Blancos.
Madrid has scored at least three goals in the last five ties against Ajax no matter where the match takes place. Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading scorer in the tie with seven goals and two assists to his name followed by Karim Benzema with three goals and four assists.
One of the most memorable goals came from Karim Benzema in the 20121/2013 season when Kaka put in a peach of a cross from the right-hand side and Benz finished with an acrobatic effort.
Let’s take a look at the five most memorable goals from this historic tie.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo’s classic counter-attack(min 1:01)
This goal was once the most watched goal on YouTube. This is arguably the best counter-attack goal in the history of the game.
This was the season Mourinho’s tactics were at its peak and Real Madrid won the league this season with a record 100 points and was unlucky to lose to Bayern Munich in the semis of the UCL.
The counter started with Ozil and Kaka and saw Ronaldo and Benzema running like hounds towards to the other end as expected. It was a really amazing one-two between Ronaldo and Kaka before Ozil gave it to Benzema to set up Cristiano who, as usual, didn’t make a mistake.
