Defence

Dani Carvajal – 7.5

With Real Madrid being flooded by the attack of Ajax wave after wave, Carvajal did well to steer their ship clear along with the rest of the back line. Dani had three tackles, four interceptions and a clearance. His late assist to Marco Asensio was a thing of beauty whipping in a ball from distance right between Ajax’s defence and keeper.

Sergio Ramos – 8

It’s fair to say Ramos held this together plenty when they needed it most. With Ajax overloading Real Madrid with plenty of attacks and movement in and around the box, it was the Capitan who worked tirelessly to keep it all together. Ramos finished the match with three tackles, four interceptions and clearances. He also managed to pick up a yellow card which leaves him unavailable for the next match.

Nacho – 7

Filling in Raphael Varane is no easy task and his height was most certainly missed. Nonetheless, Nacho did a good job working hard to help out his back line, he registered four interceptions and five clearances. He was also the only player for Madrid (apart from Mariano who played 10-minutes) that did not register a tackle.

Sergio Reguilon – 7

The youngster took well to get into stride and understandably so, being 22 and playing for three times in a row champions Real Madrid in the UCL is no small feat. He eventually grew into the game and started cleaning up his game, with two tackles and interceptions along with four clearances he finished the game strong. Reguilon’s neat pass into stride for Vinicius Jr. led to the opening goal of the match. Sergio seemed to have lost his head once again though with a silly tackle earning himself a yellow card.
