Attack

Gareth Bale – 6

Bale was given the start ahead of Vazquez by Santiago Solari and very quickly it was evident that it was not the right call. The Welshman didn’t do enough to help control possession and the attack of Ajax and had very little impact in the offensive third. While his three shots did meet the target none really tested the keeper. Despite his heroics at the Wanda last weekend that clearly doesn’t warrant a starting position, at least not yet.

Karim Benzema – 8

Karim Benzema continues to fill the gaps in this team and add to the scoring tally. With just two shots on target, Benzema was able to convert and give Madrid the lead. His sharp movement on and off the ball has been applaudable. Real Madrid needed a goal and Karim delivered, what more can you say?

Vinicius Jr.  – 7.5

His lightning pace was once again a problem for Real Madrid. With Bale heavily marked the Brazilian flew forward as many times as he could testing the Ajax defence. A brilliant display of technical ability coupled with selflessness leads to Benzema’s goal, proving just how special the 18-year-old is.
