Marcelo in a Sticky Situation

Marcelo has been having a rough go this season, as a result, he’s received plenty of heat from the fans. Like anything, this can be looked at from different angles.

Has Marcelo been poor this season? Yes. Is it fair to blame an individual player for a loss? Yes and no. People are as you said, pounding, the defender. Marcelo has been a mere shadow of himself. When given the chance to redeem himself, he has failed to do so time and again.

Plenty of mistakes have been made in the area and men Marcelo is meant to cover. Take for example Artur’s goal in the Clasico, and more recently against Girona.

Fans have berated Marcelo on social media, even comparing him to new boy Sergio Reguilon. People have pinned plenty of losses on him, but it’s not entirely his fault, remember there are 10 other players on his team.

It is, of course, sad seeing the flack that he has received and it would be a whole lot better if fans were supportive rather than destructive. Every player has bad moments but building them up is far better than tearing them down.
