This season has likely been the most stressful in Gareth Bale’s career. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus and the resignation of Zinedine Zidane left Real Madrid reeling. Bale simply hasn’t been the consistent producer many expected. He could leave Spain this summer according to a source.

Reports have emerged from a “close source to Gareth Bale” that both he and Real Madrid could finalize a deal to send the Welsh forward to Bayern Munich this summer. The two clubs have a good relationship and have been in constant contact over the last couple of years while James Rodriguez is on loan with the Bavarians.

“This is a transfer that appeals to all sides, and to the player himself – who would not want to play for Bayern Munich?” the source told TeamTalk yesterday. Once again, I am not falling for the bait of these unsupported rumors.

Bale has been – and will continue to be – a topic of discussion amongst the Spanish media and Real Madrid fans. To most, he has underperformed for the last couple of years and patience is wearing thin.

For others, Bale is still seen as the 2014 Copa del Rey and Champions League Final hero. Unfortunately, he is no longer the same energetic playmaker. How could he be after playing with Real Madrid for several years and winning 150 matches with the club?

Bale is simply not a like for like replacement for Ronaldo. No one is!

I am on Gareth’s side and I’ve always been a fan of his. But it is true, he hasn’t picked up the mantle left behind by CR7. He’s getting outscored by Karim Benzema for goodness sakes. That still doesn’t mean he should leave.

It will be interesting to see how Bale responds to Zinedine Zidane taking over after the two had a very strange relationship during the Frenchman’s first tenure. Bale played a good amount but felt hard done by Zizou’s decision to leave him on the bench for the UCL final against Liverpool.

As we all remember, Bale came on in the second half and scored two amazing goals to win his fourth European Cup and score one of the best goals in a final we have ever seen.

One of the possible scenarios Gareth Bale goes to Bayern Munich is if the German’s want to keep James and use him as leverage to get Bale. James has played pretty well in his two-year loan stint in Munich, but has fallen out of favor with new manager Niko Kovač.

We will continue to keep a close eye on any developments that come out.
