Zinedine Zidane on Pogba: “Why not come here to Madrid?”
By Hasan Karim
The transfer rumour mill continues spinning as the conclusion of the season looms ever closer. With a challenging season coming to a close, it seems Real Madrid and Zinedine and Zidane are eyeing up future options – the manager is keen on Paul Pogba.
Zinedine Zidane made his triumphant return to Real Madrid in the last few weeks as he took over from the doomed Solari reign. With Sergio Ramos and Co. having faltered this season as they have no trophies left to play for, all eyes are on the summer transfer window and a wind of change is expected to sweep through the Spanish capital. Amongst those changes? The possible entry of Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman has long been an admirer of Zinedine Zidane, his fellow countryman and has not been shy in expressing his desire to play in Royal White under Zidane’s watchful eye. Speaking recently, he said: “Real Madrid is a dream for any kid or footballer and especially with Zidane.”
The United midfielder has been in fine form for the Red Devils since new coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho. With 11 goals and 9 assists in 28 Premier League games, it is clear to see why Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane would be interested in his services.
When discussing the World Cup winner, Zidane said: “I like him a lot—that is nothing new. I know him personally. He is a truly different player—few players can do what he can. He is a midfielder who can defend, attack, do everything. But he is not my player, he is at Manchester. He has always said that, after Manchester, Madrid has always interested him. So when his experience at Manchester ends, why not come here to Madrid?”
The United player rejoined the club in 2016 for a then world record transfer fee of £89 million. The player was linked to the Spanish capital throughout that summer, however, Real decided not to pursue the player further. Though, this latest flirtation in the headlines has sparked a whirlwind of discussion as fans worldwide discuss his potential impact at Real Madrid. The rumours have sparked the headlines that the player is now indeed interested in a move to Spain and wishes to leave Manchester this summer, according to Marca.
Real Madrid currently has a wealth of talent in the midfield position. With Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro the guaranteed starters, there are also the likes of Dani Ceballos, Fede Valverde, Marcos Llorente and Isco all vying for places. This is before one even considers the on-loan James Rodriguez and Mateo Kovacic.
With the season winding down and a short time to go until the opening of the transfer window, it will be interesting to see how this story develops. With Pogba being such a huge name and the need for fresh faces in the Bernabeu, could this move happen?
