Real Madrid’s right flank conundrum
By Hasan Karim
Lucas Vasquez
Lucas Vasquez most certainly divides opinion amongst Madrid fans. Whilst he has been a main-stay in the Madrid side for the past few seasons, the Spaniard, like most others this season has struggled.
With a goal and three assists in La Liga, he has not been quite as effective as previous campaigns. Although he has been a creatively sound player since returning to Madrid and has provided some important goals, such as the one in the Nou Camp in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey.
Given that he does not boast the ego of a superstar and has put consistent numbers up throughout his tenure, Vasquez is a rare commodity in football. He willingly does his job with next to no fuss. Should he be willing to rotate, wouldn’t it make sense to keep a player who is effortless to keep happy and is largely effective when needed?
Verdict: He stays if he’s willing to drop minutes.
