Players returning from loan

Real Madrid currently has a number of players who are on loans which expire this summer as they’ll need to figure out what to do with. Here is what you can expect.

Andriy Lunin

Real Madrid decided to purchase the young Ukrainian goalkeeper last summer and look for a club that will help him grow. Thankfully, he was able to stay in the Spanish top flight as he went on loan to Leganés in a move that hasn’t fully ended up the way the Los Blancos hierarchy hoped it would.

Nevertheless, he will be returning this summer and there is a possibility that Zidane decides to keep him as a back-up goalkeeper instead of (presumably) Keylor Navas.

More from The Real Champs

Mateo Kovacic

One of the high-profile names currently out on loan is Mateo Kovacic as his Chelsea experiment hasn’t been going too well so far. The manager wants to keep him, but with a transfer ban, it’s difficult to find any ways around it.

Having said that, Kovacic was definitely unhappy at Real Madrid last season and that probably won’t change now as the club are expected to find a new place for him. A shocking story has come out saying that he could make a move to Russia.

Theo Hernandez

After arriving from Atletico Madrid, so much was expected for the left-back, however, he was never good enough to be a starter and proved that he cannot be a back-up for Marcelo. The French defender was sent on loan to Real Sociedad but there have been no signs to show that he will be welcomed back at the club.

Martin Ødegaard

The man that everyone is talking about is Martin Odegaard as he currently is on loan at Vitesse and has shown tremendous potential there. It’s extremely difficult to predict what will happen with the Norwegian winger but I’m willing to make a bold statement and say that he will be part of the club next year.

James Rodriguez

The Colombian midfielder is in the final months of his two-year loan with Bayern Munich and the German club has an option to purchase him. It is still unknown whether or not they’ll activate that clause but it’s extremely unlikely that James will be part of the 2019/2020 Real Madrid squad next season no matter what happens.

Borja Mayoral

Things are not going too well for Borja Mayoral in his loan spell with Levante and unfortunately, he has not given us any reason to believe that he has improved enough to play with this team next season.

Expect him to be sold upon his return.

Raul De Tomas

Unlike Mayoral, Raul De Tomas has been in high form with Rayo Vallecano and there has been talk of him being part of the team next year.

I personally do not see that happening though as Real Madrid will want to go with Luka Jovic (more on that later) as Karim Benzema’s backup.
