First Half

Madrid started off the match strong, passing through Sociedad with ease, scoring inside the first 10 minutes of the match. Winger Brahim Diaz held his ground dancing his way past three defenders before slotting the ball between the legs of keeper Gerónimo Rulli.

This was also Brahim’s first goal with Real Madrid, a moment he will surely remember. The game was looking up as Madrid continued to assert their dominance creating several goal scoring opportunities.

Sociedad would score in the 20-minute but it would be called back after a five-minute wait from the VAR officials.

The home side wasted no time getting on the front foot as play resumed scoring in the 26-minute of the match, and this time it would count. Forward Mikel Merino joined the Sociedad attack and found himself staring down Thibaut Courtois in the box who made no mistake to level up the scoreline.

With the wind now in their sails and back on level-pegging Sociedad took the game to Madrid.

La Real applied the pressure forcing the hand of Madrid and quite literally as Jesus Vallejo was called for a handball inside his own box who was shown a red card for his foolishness. Courtois came up big to keep his side in the game stopping the penalty shot that ensued.

Heading into the tunnel, 10 man Real Madrid knew they had a daunting task ahead of them.
